GUILTY PLEASURES: April Showers Ed.

It's been raining a lot out here. And it brings to mind this french movie The Umbrellas of Cherbourg. A very gay (in the old sense of the word, not the same sex meaning) film done entirely in song. Visualy it is amazing. The colors and patterns on the interiors get pretty psychedelic. Incidentally, watching people engage entirely in song for two hours also eventually elicits psychedelic qualities.

My friend and I have an on going arguement about the ending (see above). The story is about a man and woman who meet and fall deeply in love. The man gets drafted and goes to war for a very long time. While he's away, the woman ends up marrying another man. When he returns, he is distraught about the news but, later falls in love and marry's himself. I believe that the moral is that great things can exist in a moment and then are gone. And that things have a way of panning out even if it's not what one initially believes is the "best" thing. My friend believes that they settled for less. Either way watching this movie can make you embarresed for liking it so much. And that's what a guilty pleasure is all about.
